Public Services
Public services are under threat. The Government is looking to make cutbacks to budgets at a time when demand is rising.
The Green Party will fight to make sure that pressure on public finances does not translate into cuts to essential services for those who need them most and will oppose any further privatisation.
The Green New Deal - our package for spearheading the economic recovery - includes significant investment in public services, including social care, housing and transport.
The Green Party strongly believes that local provision and access to high quality public services such as schools, libraries, hospitals, nurseries, post offices and public transport are essential to maintain thriving communities and a good quality of life for all.
We will take decisive action to build strong public services, including:
• Building a restorative justice system and investment in measures that tackle the causes of causes of crime.
• Fighting to ensure access to quality local schools is a reality for all and that privatization of any further schools through the Academies and Trusts agendas is stopped.
• Ensuring that health services are free and universal at point of delivery, including dental services, and increasing investment in measures that reduce the incidence of preventable ill-health.
• Providing affordable and accessible public transport.
• Ending the Private Finance Initiative (PFI) and funding public services properly.
