Eastern Green Party

No to Stansted expansion

Eastern Region Green Party is encouraging as many people as possible to object to the planning applications for a second runway at Stansted Airport - which if granted would allow the airport to expand to a size larger than Heathrow is today.

Thousands of acres of countryside are at risk, homes will be bulldozed and communities already suffering noise will be subjected to a trebling of flights over their heads.

Almost every council in the area is objecting - as is the National Trust, which runs the nearby protected Hatfield Forest. And of course airport expansion means higher carbon emissions - which the Government seem unconcerned about in their misguided support for Stansted and Heathrow expansion.

As an objector, you can exercise the right to speak at the public inquiry which starts in April 2009. Over 1000 people and organisations have already objected, but far more are needed.

Eastern Region Lead Candidate for the European Elections, Cllr. Dr. Rupert read has registered to speak at the inquiry, as has Essex Green Party Co-ordinator Cllr. James Abbott, who is the Green Party's national spokesperson on climate change.
