General Election 2010 candidates and campaign

The Green Party fielded 24 candidates in the North West region in the general election. This is a three times the number of candidates fielded in the last election in 2004, highlighting the growing strength of the Party across the region.

Whilst the Party nationally celebrated its first MP in the victory of Caroline Lucas in Brighton, here the Party was squeezed by tactical voting, in what was seen as the closest election for many years.

The highest percentages for Green candidates in the North West were:

Gina Dowding Lancaster and Fleetwood - 4.4%

Tom Crone Liverpool Riverside - 3.5%

Justine Hall Manchester Gorton - 2.7%
