SGV. The Strong Green Voice for Wales
SGV1. There's a lot wrong with politics today. Politicians know this, just like the rest of us. But the conventional parties lack the courage to face issues squarely and openly and to make the big decisions that need to be made. The Green Party wants none of this. The Green Party can be relied upon to stand unequivocally against greed, vested interests, resource depletion, exploitation and war - to be the Strong Green Voice for Wales.
SGV2. What is the aim of Green politics?
Greens want to create a truly sustainable society in tune with our core principles. To achieve this it is essential that social and economic development should be sustainable.
SGV3. Sustainable Development - why we need it
Sustainable development is a vital concept because currently our economic activity is:
endangering the environment on which human and other life depends.
destroying the local communities on which our society is based.
eroding our culture and languages which can so enrich our lives.
failing to make adequate provision for the young and the old, the sick and the disabled.
weakening the democratic foundations of our society.
SGV4. We are living in a blinkered, short-sighted society, driven by short-term monetary goals. This is not sustainable. We all know it and we can all do something to change it.
SGV5. Sustainable Development - what it really means
Sustainable development means learning how to live within the Earth's finite resources whilst preserving and enriching the fabric of our society. This in turn means sharing these limited resources fairly.
SGV6. Other politicians like to cloak themselves with greenness. They are quick to use terms like 'sustainable growth' to conceal the reality of their destructive business-as-usual approach. At present nearly all development decisions are determined by what is deemed to be economic. If there is no profit for the backers then it doesn't happen. Sustainable development accepts the fact that people want things that are un-economic. It puts people and progress before profit.
SGV7. Other politicians attempt to give an illusion of progress by manipulating language. Green politicians will deliver progress by rewriting economics.
